Dr. duPlessis is a fellowship trained neurosurgical spine surgeon. Dr. duPlessis joined the University of Calgary Spine Program in 2000 as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences. Dr. duPlessis completed his neurosurgical training at the University of the Free State in South Africa in 1998. He completed a combined orthopedic and neurosurgical fellowship with the University of Calgary Spine Program in 2000 after which he was recruited to join the group.
Dr. duPlessis has a dedicated spinal neurosurgical practice. He has an interest in spinal oncology specifically the treatment of spinal cord tumors and radiosurgery to the spine. He is active clinically and has an interest in clinical research. Dr. duPlessis has a special interest in minimally invasive and motion preserving spinal surgery and is actively working on innovative techniques with respect to developing new minimally invasive surgical techniques and implants.
Dr. duPlessis is involved in the training of spinal fellows in the University of Calgary Spine Program. He has chaired a number of hands on spine training courses and has presented both nationally and internationally. Dr. duPlessis currently Chairs the University of Calgary Spine Program.
